SHAH ALAM, March 21 — Factory operators and industrial areas in Selangor are required to appoint KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to manage their unscheduled waste.
State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the move will ensure waste is disposed of efficiently and will also resolve the issue of illegal dumping sites.
“KDEBWM will nominate a subcontractor to manage the waste at illegal dumping sites. They will be equipped with tools or gadgets to make it easier to monitor waste disposal,” he said.
Ng was responding to a query from Ijok state assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad on the appointment of KDEBWM in managing waste, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session earlier today.
He added the appointment of the state-owned company is not to penalise factory operators but instead to ensure the waste at premises is disposed of at the correct location.
“We found that much of the waste at illegal dumping sites involve commercial and industry (entities) So if we do not use this method, the source of the waste cannot be detected,” Ng said.
