Land and Mines Office should be more proactive to offer disposable plots — MB

SHAH ALAM, March 17 — The Selangor State Land and Mines Office (PTGS) has been urged to be more proactive in offering land plots, which the state government wants to dispose of, to the people.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the proactive move to make the offer first is better than merely waiting for applications from interested parties.

He said the state government is still studying the right approach to implement the suggestion.

“For example every year, PTGS will announce that there are 40 home sites, or maybe 80 entrepreneurial sites that we want to dispose of due to the limited land sizes in the state’s districts, as a result of Selangor’s rapid development rate.

“For now I will let PTGS consider the idea first, do not wait for people to come to them, they have to make an offer instead. Or the office can conduct its own study (to see if it is feasible to implement)

“I can guarantee this practice will lead to a more transparent process when it concerns land ownership,” Amirudin said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.

The Menteri Besar, who is also Sungai Tua state assemblyman, was responding to a query from Taman Templer state representative Mohd Sany Hamzan concerning developments on state government lands.

Amirudin added that in 2020, the state government issued a new circular on the extension of land ownership whereby the nominal premium was increased from RM1,000 to RM5,000. The RM1,000 premium was formerly levied from 2008 to 2019.

“The increment was due to the fact their ownership has been extended and the landowner can pass down their ownership to the next generation,” he said.
