PETALING JAYA, March 30 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) remains committed to boosting its efforts in diversifying recycling programmes in the areas under its purview.

Its mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the local council had spent RM85 million on garbage collection and public cleansing services with a RM8.3 million fee for garbage disposal.

“The cost is expected to increase by another 35 per cent… at the same time, the council will continue to step up to increase the recycling rate.

“We are targeting 30 per cent household participation in the recycling programme this year, and it is expected to be expanded to all administrative areas by 2025,” he said in his speech during the launch of the Galeria PJ Eco Recycling Plaza in SS8 here, yesterday.

Mohamad Azhan said the plaza, which has been in operation since 2019, provides collection services for recyclable items, equipment and workshop equipment for reusable waste.

He said it is also equipped with learning facilities, food and organic waste treatment facilities, and seminar and training rooms.

“I hope the residents in Petaling Jaya would utilise the facilities provided and take part in the programmes organised here.

“The plaza provides the space and chance for the members of the public to participate (in various programmes),” he said.
