PKR abides by decision of Johor people, to regain strength in facing next GE — Anwar

SHAH ALAM, March 13 — PKR abides by the decision made by the Johor people in the state polls yesterday, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a statement today, the party president said the result of the state by-election is an important reminder for political parties to regain their strength in facing the next general election.

“We are very concerned about the voter turnout trend, which is upsetting and could threaten the democratic process.

“My appreciation goes to all the supporters and machinery of PKR and Pakatan Harapan (PH) who worked hard to move the campaign throughout this state election,” the statement read.

Anwar had also congratulated Barisan Nasional (BN) on the coalition’s success in forming the state government in Johor.

Yesterday, the Election Commission (EC) had announced that BN had won the Johor state election with more than a two-thirds majority, capturing 40 of the 56 seats contested.

PH had won 11 seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) three seats, and PKR and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) one seat each.

The EC said 1,426,573 total voters cast their ballots in the polls, giving a voter turnout of 54.92 per cent.
