Selangor records RM84 mln revenue surplus last year — MB

SHAH ALAM, March 16 — The Selangor government has recorded a surplus of RM84 million in revenue last year from the initial target of RM2.2 billion tabled in the 2021 Selangor Budget despite the prolonged movement control order (MCO) period.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said a similar achievement was also recorded in 2020 whereby the state government managed to accumulate a total revenue of RM2.257 billion, over RM50 million higher than its initial target for that year.

He said last year’s revenue collection could have been higher were it not for the MCO implementation which slowed down the land premium fee payment process.

“In order to tackle the issue the state government has come out with a few mechanisms. In 2020, we introduced the 100-days policy in a bid to attract new investors to Selangor.

“The policy allows for land development management and planning permission to be reduced to 100 days so investors can proceed with their plans within six to eight months,” Amirudin said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

The Menteri Besar was responding to a query from Sungai Air Tawar state assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail on Selangor’s revenue.

He added that in the 2022 Selangor Budget several development projects were announced, including in Sabak Bernam which has the potential to pave the way for more robust economic growth.

“At the same time the state government also organised two major international events last year, namely the Selangor Aviation Show and the Selangor International Business Summit.

“For this year, we have just concluded the Selangor Asian Badminton Championship, and the inaugural Selangor International Halal Conference. I believe these four international events organised by the state government will excite investors and lead to more exciting economic activities in Selangor,” he said.
