SHAH ALAM, April 22 — A total of 692 children with disabilities (OKU) have received the Anak Istimewa Selangor (Anis) Special Assistance totalling RM1.3 million last year.

State executive councillor for women development and family Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the assistance helped ease the burden of parents and carers of OKU children to cover the cost of education, therapy, equipment and medicines.

“The state government would continue the special assistance programme as well as the Didik Anis programme this year with a total allocation of RM1.5 million,” she said in a statement today.

She added that the online application for both programmes would be opened from May 17 until May 31 through the website www.anisselangor.com

In a related development, Dr Siti Mariah announced the establishment of the Independent Living Support Centre (ILSC) which provides training and skills programmes to the targeted OKUs with an allocation of RM1 million.

“ILSC aims to train OKUs aged above 18 who are diagnosed with learning disabilities so that they could be independent and continue living a better life,” she said.
