SHAH ALAM, April 14 — The arrival numbers of international tourists to Selangor is on the rise since Malaysia transitioned to the endemic phase early this month, said state executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian.

He said business for the hotels and tourism centres in the state have come back to life and restored the industry which has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Although there are no statistics yet I believe the number of tourists is increasing following the reopening of the country’s borders. We hope more tourists will come to Selangor seeing as it is the entry point for international tourists with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (in Sepang)

“Certainly it is difficult to achieve the number of tourists (in Selangor) as seen before the pandemic before 2019 as there are some countries which remain closed, but we want it to be better compared to 2020,” Hee said.

The councillor was speaking at the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the development of the Go Selangor app between Tourism Selangor and Tourplus Technology at i-City earlier today.

He also thanked the government for making it easier for international tourists to holiday in Malaysia without having to undergo quarantine.

“Tourists only have to do a quick antigen (RTK-Ag) test 24 hours before boarding a plane. This is a good more to encourage tourists to come to Malaysia particularly Selangor,” Hee said.
