AMPANG, April 17 — Works to repair and strengthen the slope at the landslide incident area at Taman Bukit Permai 2 here is expected to begin next month, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the Malaysian Public Works Institute (Ikram) is currently carrying out soil stabilisation and slope mitigation work to ensure the area is safe before the next process is implemented.

“After all this is completed, we will carry out the repair process using the best method available. We will begin after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which is in May,” he said.

He said this after attending the cash aid handover programme to the victims of the Taman Bukit Permai 1 and 2 landslides at the Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) in Cheras Baru, here yesterday.

Also present were Pandan MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek and Hulu Langat district officer Dr Ani Ahmad.

Commenting on the status of the 15 houses in Taman Bukit Permai 1 that were ordered to be vacated, Amirudin said the decision on whether the houses are safe to be occupied or otherwise would be announced in two weeks’ time.

“If it is found to be safe, the residents can return and the state government will start the process of repairing the slope which will take a minimum of three months or up to five months.

“So far, some of the 70 houses we had ordered to be vacated have been allowed to be reoccupied after the cleaning process has been done,” he said.

On March 11, a landslide occurred at Taman Bukit Permai 2, Ampang which killed four victims and slightly injured another, while 15 homes and 10 vehicles were damaged.
