MB: Selangor managed to conduct free screenings, purchase vaccines despite economic crisis

KUALA SELANGOR, May 21 — Selangor has been able to offer a variety of additional initiatives to the people despite the economic crisis caused by movement control order as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the initiatives include free health screening conducted statewide and the Selangor Vaccine (Selvax) programme as recommended by the Selangor Task Force Covid-19 (STFC)

“The initiatives implemented before are added-value to the Federal government’s action plan to ensure the people’s health.

“It is a big challenge as to how to coordinate the instructions and actions to implement the initiatives. Yet we were able to do over 177,000 screenings to detect infections and immediately isolate positive individuals,” Amirudin said.

Selangor also purchased its own vaccines to expedite herd immunity, and within a period of a month and a half, the vaccination rate among the people including children increased to over 95 per cent.

The Menteri Besar was speaking at the Selangor Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Bandar Melawati Bus Terminal in Kuala Selangor yesterday, which was attended by over 5,000 visitors.

Amirudin added the implementation of these initiatives is indicative of the state government’s dedication and maturity in putting aside political questions.

“This is called maturity in administration. We could have chosen to quarrel all the time, reaching political will.

“Instead the state government behaved maturely and combined efforts with the Federal government to coordinate the matter (in screenings and vaccines) This is also the reason why within two years we can still manage to produce results above target,” he said.
