Selangor allocates over RM25 mln to help schools upgrade facilities

SHAH ALAM, May 20 — The state government has allocated RM26.5 million to primary and secondary schools in Selangor to improve their infrastructure.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the contribution is particularly meant for schools that have not received full aid from the federal government.

“In visits to several schools before this, I observed that schools which receive full aid also require the support of various parties including the state government in preparing good education infrastructure,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the Teachers’ Day 2022 celebration and the launch of the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) at Dewan Jubli Perak in the Selangor State Legislative Building earlier today.

He added that aid has been expanded to these schools after many applications were made to support their improvement needs.

“The amount is not very large, between RM1 million to RM2 million (per school) but it will be enough to support their needs. If they do not have the full infrastructure, the funds can at least support small equipment or programmes,” Amirudin said.

In December last year, the state government distributed RM24 million to help 637 schools in Selangor to upgrade their facilities.

Approximately RM9.3 million was given to religious primary schools, RM9 million to Chinese vernacular schools, and RM4.5 million to Tamil vernacular schools.
