WTPs back to work, water supply to begin flow again tonight — MB

SHAH ALAM, May 3 — The two water treatment plants (WTP) that were forced to cease operations due to odour pollution commenced operations again at 3.30pm after three readings of 0 threshold odour number (TON) was recorded.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the water supply for the 472 areas in five districts affected by the unscheduled disruption will begin channelling water again in stages starting tonight.

He added this is the third such incident that has occurred in the same place within this week.

“The personnel of both Lembaga Urus Air Selangor and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd are working hard to resolve the pollution issue as quickly as possible so the disruption can be ended.

“I understand the frustration felt by residents in the affected area as it is the third time this week. But action must be taken to ensure the health and safety of consumers,” he said in a Facebook post.

The Sungai Semenyih WTP and Bukit Tampoi WTP ceased operations earlier this morning after odour pollution was discovered at the Jenderam Hilir Raw Water Pump Station.

This affected five regions under Air Selangor including Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (196 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (27 areas) with the disruption starting at 3pm.

Due to the disruption, Air Selangor will provide alternative assistance through water tankers that will be mobilised for consumers with priority given to critical premises.

“We are making all efforts to minimise the impact of disruption on affected consumers. Those in the affected areas are advised to store enough water while waiting for the water supply to fully recover.

“Air Selangor will provide updates progressively from time to time through all mediums. Consumers can also refer to all our official communication channels including the Air Selangor app, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or call the Air Selangor Contact Centre at 15300,” said its corporate communication head Elina Baseri in a statement.

Members of the public who wish to make inquiries or file complaints can do so at the Help
Centre via www.airselangor.com and the Air Selangor app.
