78,182 Rumah Idaman homes to be developed for first-time homebuyers

SHAH ALAM, June 22 — The Selangor government has approved a total of 31 Rumah Idaman projects, with a target of 78,182 housing units to address the needs of people looking to buy their first home.

State executive councillor for housing and urban wellbeing Rodziah Ismail said that three projects have been developed so far using the most up-to-date and high-quality designs.

“We don’t want to differentiate between high- and low-cost homes in Selangor, which is why this Rumah Idaman was designed to not show much difference,” said Rodziah during the Bual Bicara talk show titled ‘Rumah Idaman: Mampu Milik dan Selesa’ (Rumah Idaman: Affordable and Comfortable) which was broadcast live on Media Selangor, last night.

Rodziah explained that the significant number of projects was due to high demand, particularly among low-income individuals, as a result of the growing population of Selangor.

“For every 100,000 who enter Selangor, 90 per cent choose to settle down in the state. This is a big challenge for the state government in providing comfort to the people, as well as suitable homes, particularly at affordable prices,” she said.

Meanwhile, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd chief executive officer Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim said that Rumah Idaman provides a variety of services to its owners despite the RM250,000 price tag.

He said with an area of 1,000 square feet and located in strategic locations, the homes are equipped with various facilities are including ease of access to schools, hospitals and main roads.

“Each unit has two parking spaces, three bedrooms with air conditioning, two bathrooms with water heaters, kitchen cabinets, television, refrigerator, and wardrobe. There are also developers who provide extra facilities,” he said.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari gad previously announced the development of six Rumah Idaman projects to assist persons working and living in Selangor in getting their first homes.

He said each apartment is priced at RM250,000 and has a square footage of 1,000 square feet, and a practical design with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
