Climate change, people’s assistance among motions to be discussed in Legislative Assembly

By Sheeda Fathil

PETALING JAYA, June 29 — The state government’s preparations for facing climate change are among the motions that will be brought by Bandar Utama state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly next month.

She said the focus will also be on defending the fate of the people affected by disasters including floods and landslides, due to these factors.

“We must learn from past experiences like the major floods that hit Selangor in December last year, which resulted in landslides in some areas.

“It is indeed difficult to stop climate change but if it happens, Selangor needs to know how to help the people, particularly farmers, fishermen or those living near high-risk areas,” she said.

Jamaliah was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project to upgrade the drainage system and reservoir pond in the upper parts of the Sungai Kayu Ara area, today.

Earlier, Speaker Ng Suee Lim said the session is scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 5.
