Residents, local authorities need to communicate well to resolve security issues — MB

PETALING JAYA, June 26 — The local authorities in Selangor and residents have been asked to increase their communication levels with each other, particularly over security issues.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the safety of housing areas and neighbourhoods is not solely the responsibility of the police but also requires cooperation between the local authorities and residents.

“Good communication and relations is a must, not only in terms of financial allocations but also in running programmes together. Safety factors should be a priority.

“There must be close cooperation, we cannot simply leave it to the authorities. We must not see security as only a police issue only but all parties must be ready to work together to address problems that arise,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the officiation of the Merangsang Ekonomi Mensejahtera Komuniti Petaling Jaya programme, on the grounds of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) earlier today.

The event also saw the Menteri Besar hand over contributions to nearly 100 Petaling Jaya Neighbourhood Safety Teams, with each team receiving RM3,000.

The teams were formed to to create a safe local neighborhood by encouraging the involvement of the Residents Association (RA), Rukun Tetangga (RT) and the Joint Management Body (JMB) of any given neighbourhood.
