State affordable homes projects receive overwhelming response

By Mustakim Ramli

SHAH ALAM, June 22 — Registrations for the purchase of Rumah Idaman have exceeded its offer with a total of 6,194 applications received compared to only 4,631 units of houses offered.

Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) executive director Dato’ Dr Juhari Ahmad said the interest was in the Rumah Idaman projects located in Bukit Jelutong, Semenyih and Kuala Langat.

“In Bukit Jelutong, 1,260 units were offered but the number of registration was 2,300, in Semenyih 2,059 units were built but 2,596 had applied. While in Kuala Langat 1,312 units were offered and 1,298 had registered.

“Based on this feedback, the response from home buyers has been overwhelming. This came from just three areas and when it (Rumah Idaman) opens in other areas, there will definitely be more people applying,” he said.

He said this during the Bual Bicara talk show titled ‘Rumah Idaman: Mampu Milik dan Selesa’ (Rumah Idaman: Affordable and Comfortable) which was broadcast live on Media Selangor, last night.

Juhari said among the eligibility requirements is the applicants must be Malaysian citizens who do not own any type of residence in Selangor.

“So for those who already own a house, if they apply, they won’t get it, the application will be rejected immediately. Further information on the eligibility requirements is available at the Rumah Idaman website,” he said.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had previously announced the development of six Rumah Idaman projects to assist persons working and living in Selangor in getting their first homes.

He said each apartment is priced at RM250,000 and has a square footage of 1,000 square feet and a practical design with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
