SHAH ALAM, June 23 — The state government will coordinate a task force to improve Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampong Jawa in Klang, which has been shortlisted for the World’s Best School Awards.

Sungai Kandis state assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said the assistance is one of the contributing marks the school needs to win the ‘Addressing Challenges’ category that it was nominated for.

He said the matter was discussed earlier today during a meeting between the school’s administration with Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“The task force would also involve the Sungai Kandis community service centre. Menteri Besar had also donated RM10,000 as an appreciation to the school,” he said on Facebook.

On June 9, T4 Education in a statement, said the awards, which were launched this year in collaboration with the Yayasan Hasanah, Templeton World Charity Foundation, Accenture and American Express, offered a total cash prize of US$250,000.

The three top finalists will be selected in each of the five categories of the World’s Best School Awards, namely Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Addressing Challenges and Supporting Healthy Living.

The winner of each category that will be announced at World Education Week, from October 16 to 21, will receive US$50,000.

Apart from SMK Kampong Jawa, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kempadang in Kuantan, Pahang was also shortlisted under the ‘Innovation’ category.
