SHAH ALAM, July 4 — A total of 150 hawkers in the Batu Tiga state constituency received cooking gas cylinders and basic necessities on July 1.

Its state assemblyman Rodziah Ismail said the contribution was an initiative by her team together with AC Gas Malaysia to ease the burden of affected hawkers.

She said RM25,000 was spent on the contribution of cooking gas cylinders, rice and cooking oil, while AC Gas Malaysia donated RM2,400 for the contribution of flour, sugar and milk.

“This contribution is intended to alleviate the burden of hawkers who have been severely affected by the increase in prices of goods and services post-Covid-19 pandemic due to Federal government policies.

“This contribution also aimed to reduce the impact of inflation, especially on food which rose 5.2 per cent in May this year compared to May 2021.

“It is also to reduce the risk of hawkers getting into debt with Ah Long (illegal money lenders) to continue doing their business, as well as prevent traders from going bankrupt and losing the source of income to provide for their family,” she said today.

Rodziah, who is also the state executive councillor for entrepreneur development said the same programme will be continued to ensure that more affected micro and small entrepreneurs could be assisted.

“We will continue this programme in similar form or others, specifically for hawkers and small traders either in the Batu Tiga state constituency or even in the entire Shah Alam parliamentary constituency,” she said.
