Chickens, cooking oil packets sold out in less than an hour during affordable goods sale in Gombak

GOMBAK, July 8 — The affordable goods sale in conjunction with Aidiladha in Taman Gombak Permai here today received overwhelming when many basic necessities were sold out within a few hours.

The Jualan Ehsan Carnival organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) which is scheduled to start at 9am had to open earlier as visitors have started queuing since 7am.

Its marketing manager Md Saad Mahsah said they recorded almost RM40,000 in sales when the sale carnival ended at 12.30pm.

“A total of 300 packets of cooking oil were sold out in less than an hour. Even 1,500 whole chickens were sold out.

“Many shoppers praise the programme and hope more sale carnival like this can be organised more often and not just during the festive season,” he said.

In addition to chicken and cooking oil packets, the sale carnival also offers eggs, meat and fish at prices cheaper than the market.

The four-day programme started at Sijangkang on July 5 and continued at Bukit Beruntung and Tanjung Sepat.

The sale carnival was also held concurrently at Block D and E of Pangsapuri Inai in Pandan Indah today.

On May 19, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Ehsan Food Prices Intervention Programme has managed to benefit up to 60,000 families since its implementation in December last year in over 50 locations throughout the state.

The Jualan Prihatin Rakyat initiative is aimed at reducing the burden of the people as well as providing them with the opportunity to purchase enough fresh foods like chicken, fish, beef, fruits and vegetables.
