SHAH ALAM, July 20 — Three state assemblymen along with Selangor local authorities have embarked on the Misi Selangor Penyayang (MSP) 2.0 relief mission to Baling, Kedah, to hand over aid to the flood victims affected by the disaster earlier this month.

Led by state executive councillor for youth Mohd Khairuddin Othman, state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail and state executive councillor for rural development Borhan Aman Shah also joined the mission.

The donations include RM30,000 in cash to the Baling District and Land Office, RM40,000 to 400 heads of households, as well as basic household items including mattresses, pillows and blankets worth RM30,000.

Mohd Khairuddin together with four local authorities and volunteers will distribute aid to victims at Kampung Sadek, Kampung Raja and Kampung Kupang, while Rodziah will visit Taman Mesra and Kampung Tanjung Merbau to hand over the donations.

Meanwhile, Borhan will provide the aid to victims at Kampung Jerai and Kampung Seberang Jaya. Also participating in the mission is Selangor State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim.

On July 6, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari flagged off the MSP 1.0 convoy at the Selangor State Secretariat Building in Shah Alam to Baling.

The team consisted of 189 local authority members and 20 Selangor Volunteers (SERVE) members, who managed to clean 72 houses during the two-day relief mission.

Continuous heavy rain for almost three hours in Baling on July 4 resulted in Sungai Kupang’s water level overflowing into the homes of nearby residents.

Three members of a family, including a pregnant woman, perished after being swept away by the currents.
