Call for more frequent affordable sale programme following good response

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 — A total of 200 fresh chickens were sold in a span of three hours during the Jualan Prihatin Rakyat programme organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) in Port Klang, today.

Its assistant sales manager Mohd Firdaus Masori said, in addition, 100 cartons of eggs and 170 sachets of cooking oil were sold over the same time period due to significant public demand.

“These three products are quite popular since the prices are lower than those on the market.

“The public had requested to hold such programmes more frequently as it helps them save some of their expenses. We will look into this matter so that more people would benefit from it,” he said when contacted.

The programmes took off at 8am at the public field in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pelabuhan Utara, where a variety of basic goods were up for sale.

Among the items sold include fresh chicken at RM13 per piece, cooking oil (RM2.50 per kilogramme), grade B chicken eggs (RM12.50 per pack), fresh meat (RM39 per pack), vegetables and fruits (price from the farm) and fish (RM10 per pack).

The initiative, which aims to lessen the burden on the public as a result of the rise in the cost of goods, will continue tomorrow in Kampung Sri Indah B, Sungai Buloh.

On Wednesday, PKPS senior marketing manager Md Fazir Abdul Latif said PKPS will tour 160 locations in the state by the end of the year.
