SHAH ALAM, Aug 31 — Heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected for five Selangor districts until later this evening, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement issued at 3.30pm, the agency said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.
“Other states and territories which will be affected include Kuala Lumpur, Perak (Larut, Matang and Selamat, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah and Tampin) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar and Mersing).
“Also affected is Sarawak: Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Belaru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, and Sabah: Pendalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat,” it said.
The strong weather is expected to persist until 6pm.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
