Four Selangor districts to see strong weather until tonight — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Aug 31 — The inclement weather seen in parts of Selangor earlier today will be concentrated in four districts until tonight, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a statement issued at 6pm, it said the districts include Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.

“Elsewhere heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected at Labuan, Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan and Bera).

“Other states which will also see strong weather include Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu and Jempol), Johor (Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi), Sarawak: Betong (Pusa and Betong), Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu (Kanowit), Kapit (Song), Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, and Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan) and Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud)” said the agency.

The squally weather is predicted to persist until 9pm.

The agency issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
