SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — Kota Damansara State Assemblyman Shatiri Mansor has proposed the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) to raise the minimum wage for workers in the state to RM1,600.

He said the raise was necessary due to the current issue of the high cost of living which has burdened the workers and people.

“I propose for it (minimum wage rate) to be at least RM1,600, as I believe that Selangor can become a pioneer and hope the state government would look deeply on this issue.

“If we can implement it then I am confident that we will be able to take care of the working class so that the unemployment rate does not increase,” he said during a debate on the RS-1 in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here recently.

He also congratulated the state government for being the only state to establish an

Shatiri also congratulated the State Government for being the only state to establish an Employee Empowerment Unit that plays an important role in defending the plight of workers.

“I hope that the RM1 million Legal Fund introduced by the state government can also help defend workers who have been wronged, especially according to Section 20 of the Industrial Relations Act,” he said.

Shatiri also hoped that the RS-1 will also focus on abandoned housing.

He said this is due to his constituency having two abandoned housing projects, namely Kampung Bunga Raya and Ladang Subang.

“The abandoned housing project in Ladang Subang has affected 40 families, while in Kampung Bunga Raya it has affected 73 families. They have had to deal with this problem for more than 20 years.

“This problem started from the previous state government and continued after we became the government, it was not resolved even until today.

“So I hope the state government can consider finding a solution to this problem,” he said.

On July 27, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari tabled the RS-1, which is expected to be Selangor’s development framework in five years and has a total cost of RM212.44 billion.

He said that RM92.44 billion had been set aside for state-level development initiatives, including the introduction of a number of incentives to ensure the welfare of the people.
