Overseas scholarship rates for PSD-sponsored students under review

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 — The Public Service Department (PSD) is reviewing its scholarship rates for overseas students for standardisation purposes, according to the Director-General of Public Service Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah.

At present, he said the PSD is in the midst of discussing with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to standardise the rates and that the decision will be made public soon.

“We are still discussing the possibility for PSD scholarship rates for overseas students, such as in the United Kingdom, to be standardised with that of Mara. There are Mara-sponsored students too. So we will standardise the rates and announce it soon,” he told reporters after attending the 18th Civil Service Premier Message Gathering (MAPPA XVIII) here today.

Yesterday, Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the Cabinet had agreed to approve the review of scholarship rates under the Rural Development Ministry (KPLB), especially Mara, for all students, both domestic and overseas.

He said the government also took note of other government-related scholarships, including the PSD, to ensure the increase in scholarship rates was in line with the rise in the rate of inflation.
