RS-1: Rehda Selangor ready to build more affordable homes

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) in Selangor is prepared to construct more affordable homes in the state.

Its chairman Datuk Zaini Yusoff said this is in line with the tabling of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari recently.

“Rehda Selangor is prepared to respond to the state government’s proposal that more affordable houses be built, in order to help people own their own homes.

Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) Selangor chairman Datuk Zaini Yusoff.

“In addition, every developer in Selangor is required to build affordable houses at a 50 rate percent of the overall project, with the remainder homes built at free market prices,” he said during a press conference at the Malaysian Property and Housing Expo (Mapex) Shah Alam/Kuala Selangor 2022, at Central i-City earlier today.

Zaini added Rehda regularly conducts meetings and discussions with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and financial institutions pertaining to housing loan issues.

“We frequently convene and ask them (BNM and the financial institutions) to relax loan approval conditions, particularly for affordable housing applications.

“Through such meetings, we hope banks will consider Rehda’s request so more people can own houses,” he said.

During RS-1’s tabling on July 27, Amirudin said affordable houses ownership in Selangor have to face three primary issues, including the mismatch between supply and demand for the size and type of houses, and difficulties in obtaining financing.

To this, the state government will increase the construction of Rumah Idaman and Rumah Selangorku Harapan affordable homes so as to help the people in owning comfortable homes, as well as exploring methods of cooperation with financial institutions, especially banks, to resolve the housing financing issues.
