KLANG, Aug 31 — The appointment of 15 young individuals as Selangor Unity Ambassadors 2022 is an effort to produce enthusiastic leaders who are able to create a better understanding among the people in the state.

State executive councillor for unity Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said their appointment will bring the state government closer to the community and help build better tolerance and understanding among the people.

“The ambassadors will bring themselves closer to the community to foster (better) understanding (among the people). As we do not want people to be quick to lash out if provoked with issues, especially on religion and race.

“This programme received many applications from young people aged between 18 and 35 years old, from various races and religions, including Orang Asli,” she said.

Earlier the ambassadors received letters of appointment from Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari during an introduction ceremony at the Wyndham Hotel here yesterday.

Amirudin also launched a music video, titled ‘Kita Kan Selangor‘ performed by local artistes Aliff Satar and The Loco, to promote the spirit of unity.

Meanwhile, Dr Siti Mariah said they will table a motion on the elements and core principles of unity in the next Selangor State Legislative Assembly session.

“This motion involves three cores which are progressing together, diversity and a common race, which emphasises the aspect of unity between the people.

“This will be the first time it will be tabled as there has never been a unity committee. We will plan various programmes that can foster the spirit of cooperation,” she said.
