SEPANG, Aug 18 — The Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Dengkil is the first such facility in Malaysia to use a fully automated system, said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) operations chief Abas Abdullah.

He said the WTP operates using a complete technology system, which is a progressive move in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).

“This initiative has enabled Air Selangor to reduce the manpower needed to operate a WTP from 23 to 10 staff.

“At the same time, this will ensure the supply of treated water to consumers continues. We also plan to install the same system at the Sungai Rasau WTP,” Abas said to the media at the Semenyih 2 WTP here today.

He added the Semenyih 2 WTP is also equipped with a riverside reserve pond system that minimises the risk of shutdown caused by pollution.

“The Semenyih 2 WTP was built in 2016 at a cost of RM155 million and began operating in March 2018. It supplies treated water to 480,000 consumers, with a majority being Hulu Langat residents.

“This plant treats 100 million litres per day and is one of the main components to increase the water reserve margin to 15 per cent by 2030,” he said.
