Sultan consents to former Education D-G’s appointment as MKI’s National Islamic Education Committee chairman

SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom has been appointed as chairman of the National Islamic Education Committee, under the new National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI).

In a statement posted on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, the appointment of the former director-general of Education was assented to by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

“The 259th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers, which convened on June 30, 2022, approved the appointment, effective on the same day until June 29, 2024,” it said.

Held at Istana Bukit Kayangan, the appointment ceremony was also witnessed by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Wan Kamal Mujani.

The Advisory Board for the Coordination of Islamic Religious Education and Education (Lepai) was renamed the National Islamic Education Committee. It was first established by the Conference of Rulers in 1983.

The committee’s members include representatives for each state appointed by the Sultans of those states, alongside six members appointed by the Conference of Rulers.
