SHAH ALAM, Sept 28 — A total of 796 temporary relief centres (PPS) operated by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) have been gazetted for use in the preparation for the Northeast Monsoon season and high tide phenomenon this year.
State division secretary (Management Services) Muhamad Shah Osmin said all the relief centres are put on standby and can be activated at any time depending on the needs.
“The PPS are located throughout Selangor and categorised into three sizes which are big, medium and small according to the localities and the needs of where it is located.
“The relief centres can accommodate about 151,000 victims during floods. It is ready to be activated if there is a need and is a valid PPS to receive relief aid,” he said.
He said at a press conference during the state’s flood disaster simulation training at Dewan Jubli Perak, at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here today.
Muhamad Shah added that a total of 12 active relief centres in Hulu Langat and Kuala Selangor districts had received RM20,000 for upgrading works from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
“Nadma provided the allocation to PPS which are categorised as active for minor repairs such as fixing doors, toilets and other works to be done to ensure the comfort of the victims,” he said.
Previously Nadma reported that eight of Selangor’s nine districts are identified as flood hotspots.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage stated the districts include Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Selangor. Only Hulu Selangor is not listed as a flood hotspot.
