Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat to offer more affordable food items

By Mustakim Ramli

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Several other food items, such as sugar and bread, will be sold at the Selangor affordable sales initiative, Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat, to meet the public demand.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that talks with the suppliers to discuss the matter are underway as the state government would continue to meet the needs of the people.

“InsyaAllah (God willing), we will try to add more products to meet the demand. When we get the supplies, we will offer other items such as bread and sugar.

“However, this would be based on the public’s needs,” said Amirudin when met after a medal presentation ceremony at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil, here yesterday.

The Jualan Ehsan Rakyat initiative, run by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), aims to ease the public’s burden due to the rising cost of living and had benefitted 80,000 people since it began in December last year.

On August 30, Amirudin announced that the state administration allocated an additional RM10 million for the programme to continue under Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat throughout the 56 state constituencies from August 31 to December 31.

He said the programme would focus on offering six basic items, namely chicken, beef, fish, chicken eggs, rice and cooking oil.
