Selangor realises Sultan’s wish by building special needs children’s library with comprehensive facilities

SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — The state government via the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) has fulfilled the aspiration of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who wishes for libraries in the state to include facilities and activities for special needs children.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said His Royal Highness’ wish will begin with the Raja Tun Uda Library Phase 2B, before being expanded to other libraries in each district.

“This is not only a library but can also serve as a one-stop centre for these special needs children, thereby assisting with the high costs of caring for them. The state government will work to ensure each district library will possess the same facilities, in order for all layers of society to benefit and enjoy them.

“This unique initiative has been highly anticipated, and will most certainly benefit the community in the coming future,” he said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin added that Jabatan Anak Istimewa Selangor was also involved in developing the centre at Raja Tun Uda Library Phase 2B.

On November 26 last year, the Menteri Besar said the state government has agreed to approve the construction of the library, as a continuation of the Phases 1 and 2A projects.

Subsequently PPAS stated a special library for children would also be included in the approved project.
