KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has expressed his confidence that the Selangor contingent for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2022 can meet the 40 medal target even though the Games are coming to a close on Saturday.

The Menteri Besar said that the intense competition among the athletes had caused the team to lose the winning spot in several targeted events.

“I believe we will do our best to achieve the 40 gold medals as targetted even though it is a tough competition.

“We are still on the right track, maybe we have missed some of the medals but we can achieve it in other events,” he told SelangorKini when met after a medal presentation ceremony at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil, here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Selangor National Sports Council (MSNS) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said that the athletes will deliver their best to ensure that the 40-gold target is met.

“It may seem tough in the next four days but in sports, anything is possible,” he said.

As of yesterday, Selangor is in the eighth spot with 12 gold, 27 silver and 17 bronze medals.

Selangor aims to be in the top three spots in the 20th Sukma, which runs from September 16 to September 24.
