Shah Alam sports complex redevelopment set to begin next year

SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The redevelopment of the Shah Alam Sports Complex, including the stadium, will begin as early as next year, said Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

She said MBI was studying the initial concept design of the complex that was presented by the appointed developer, Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), and would then get feedback from the public about the design.

She added that the public can visit the official MBI website to see the proposed design for the complex and give their suggestions via email to [email protected] starting next week.

“We welcome public feedback regarding the new complex and they can submit their feedback during this one-month period,” she said at a media briefing on the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Sports Complex.

Norita said once that’s done, the MBI and MRCB will hold a public viewing before obtaining approval from the state government, most probably by end of this year.

Meanwhile, MRCB group managing director Mohd Imran Mohamad Salim said the construction cost of this complex had yet to be determined but expects it to be ready within three to four years.

He said the proposed complex, to be built on an 80-hectare piece of land, would also incorporate the construction of commercial and public facilities that will directly provide returns to the stadium management.

“This will directly provide income to the stadium management team and help absorb the maintenance and upgrade costs,” he said.

Mohd Imran said some of the development projects proposed for the complex include a hotel, commercial site, indoor stadium as well as public parks.
