Thunderstorms, heavy rain warning in Klang Valley until 9am

SHAH ALAM, Sept 1 — The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 9am today.

In the warning issued at 4.55am on Facebook, the state and territories of Perlis, Penang and Melaka are also expected to see wet weather.

The agency also expected similar weather condition in several areas within the states of Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Yan and Kuala Muda), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin), Johor (Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat) and Sabah: Pedalaman (Nabawan) and Sandakan (Tongod).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
