MBSJ installs another six flood warning systems

By Zareef Muzammil

SUBANG JAYA, Oct 5 — Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has installed another six flood early warning systems at drainage and rivers in flood-prone areas in preparation for the Northeast monsoon period.

Its mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said the installation is now underway and will be completed soon.

“As of now, we have already installed four flood early warning systems at the hotspots identified by the MBSJ’s disaster operation command centre. So with this latest addition, we will have 10.

“So if the river water level rises, we can alert the residents early so that they have enough time to evacuate the areas,” he told the media during the MBSJ’s disaster relief operation workshop at Dewan Serbaguna MBSJ, USJ 7 here today.

Johary said the system will put out an alert when the water level passes the two-third level and will also inform when the water has receded.

Meanwhile, Johary said they had identified 28 flood-prone hotspots and seven landslide-prone locations within the local council’s jurisdiction area.

He said all the areas have been mapped under the Geographic Information System (GIS) to enable a smoother rescue operation in case there are disasters.

“In the event of a disaster, it will make it easier for the agencies involved to provide aid relief to the victims.

“For example, if a disaster took place in Kampung Seri Aman, they can find out the location of the nearest temporary relief centre (PPS) within the area,” he said.

A total of 150 people participated in the workshop from the community as well as uniformed and government bodies.
