Nearly 20,000 traders registered under Plats

SUBANG JAYA, Oct 14 —Small-sized traders in Selangor continue to respond positively to the Selangor Platform (Plats) initiative, where 17,979 of them have signed up for the programme so far.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Digitalisation Department manager Siti Nur Hazwani Md Sabudin said the figure is not far from their target of 20,000 participants by the end of the year.

She said the highest number of traders signing up for the programme is recorded under the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) purview, which makes up 20 per cent of the total.

“We started collaborating with a few local councils last year and the registration at that time stood at only 7,745 traders.

“This year, we expanded the collaboration with all 12 local councils because most of the small traders including those selling in the morning market, night market and food courts have obtained their licences under the local councils.

“Alhamdulillah (Thank God) we managed to increase over 12,000 registrations,” she said after when met after a micro-entrepreneur development training programme, here yesterday.

Siti Nur Hazwani added that an awareness campaign has also been run to promote the digital platform to more local entrepreneurs.

“Out of 60 programmes that were planned for this year, 40 have been implemented. We believe the remaining programmes will be concluded by year-end.

“Therefore, I would like to urge the traders out there to grab this opportunity to sign-up for free under Plats. It would also help them to explore other potentials via the online platform,” she said.

Plats was introduced two years ago to complement the ecosystem of the Selangor digitalisation plan following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Since then, it has been improved so that more traders can generate income.
