By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — The sixth instalment of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) this year has been met with encouraging responses from trade visitors, with over 20,000 participants recorded in the first two days of the event.

Themed ‘Beyond Tomorrow’, SIBS 2022 is wholly physical this year as Malaysia moves to the transition to the endemic phase.

For the first time since its launch in 2017, SIBS occupied all seven halls in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), making it the biggest business summit ever held in the country.

Among the summit’s highlights included the food and beverages expo where large numbers of small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) took the opportunity to introduce their products and services, not only for the local market but internationally as well.

Electric vehicle aficionados did not miss the opportunity to view the latest Kia EV6, displayed at the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) by Bermaz Auto.

One of the trade visitors, Oumar Orozi Sougoi, who is currently pursuing his doctor of philosophy (Phd) in the Universiti Sains Malaysia said he came all the way from Penang to see how the event was organised after the pandemic.

As a researcher, he sought to see the latest technologies, instruments and products that could be beneficial to his research in asphalt technology.

“I also want to expand my professional network, and would like to know more people of different backgrounds, perspectives, ideas and professions.

“I believe everyone can work together regardless of who they are,” said Oumar, who hails from the Republic of Chad.

Meanwhile, fellow Chad citizen Ismail Ahmat Mahadi, said he made plans to visit the event several months before.

“The moment I saw the advertisement for this business summit, I told my friend we must go and see what it has to offer.

“I want to see what is going on in the current market and how the innovations and latest discoveries can impact our future.

“Apart from that, I want to use this opportunity to connect with other people and gain more knowledge, as I saw many local and international companies participating in the event,” said Ismail, an electrical engineer who is currently pursuing his doctorate at a local university in Johor .

With approximately 906 booths from 623 companies, the summit aims at attracting some 30,000 visitors during its duration from October 6 to October 9.

SIBS 2022 features six main events including the Selangor International Expo (SIE) (F&B) 2022, SIE (Medic), SDEC, Selangor Asean Business Conference, Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo and Selangor Industrial Park Expo.
