SIBS 2022: Spark the perfect platform for SMEs to grow, build brands

By Sulyn Chong

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — The presences of major players in the industrial and development sectors who participated in the Selangor Industrial Park (Spark) Expo provided ample guidance for small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow and build on their branding.

The four-day long event, which took place concurrently with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2022 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 6 to October 9, was crowded with visitors from various business sectors and nations.

PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd chief marketing officer Kuan Eu Jin, whose company is participating in Spark for the third time, said the expo has been very satisfactory and is glad to be a part of such a momentous moment.

He expressed amazement at SIBS’ strong traffic this year, and the high number of SMEs that participated in the summit.

“There were a lot of enquiries from various participating SMEs, which we were glad to provide as well as introduce them to our logistics solutions.

“We believe these SMEs will soon need to scale their businesses quickly, to which a logistics service provider like us will be invaluable in their growth.

“Basically, we are now planting our seeds and hopefully we can be of service to them when they grow,” Kuan said.

The same sentiments were shared by Allo Technology’s business development senior executive M. Gunasundari, for whose company it is the first time at the expo.

She said Spark is a good platform to introduce the telecommunications company, a fully-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), to the wider public.

“We had many people coming to us asking about the company and our products. This allowed us to create ample awareness about Allo and the services offered,” said Gunasundari.

SIBS 2022 managed to attract over 40,000 visitors, but both exhibitors hoped next year’s summit will be bigger and better.

“I hope there will be even more participation next year from medium-to-large industry players, as I believe their presence will set benchmarks for SMEs on how to grow their businesses and how they can build their brands,” said Kuan.

Gunasundari added, “It would be great if there were more visitors to the summit next year, because then we would be able to raise more awareness of our brand and company.”

SIBS, now in its eighth year, was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and features participants from 10 Malaysian states as well as 24 other countries.

Besides Spark, SIBS 2022 also included five other events which were the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages. SIE Medic, the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABS), the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC), and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE).

Three other events were also held concurrently, including the Selangor International Culinary Festival (SICF), the Selangor International Healthcare Conference (SIHC) and the Asian Smart City Conference: Mayors Summit and Selangor Declaration.
