SMG hailed for outstanding efforts in restoring Sungai Klang

SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — The Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project was honoured with the 2022 Malaysia Outstanding ESG Corporate Excellence Award for Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) on August 23.

Project operator Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) said the award recognises the importance of river care, and a testament to their efforts in re-establishing Sungai Klang as a valuable resource and asset for Selangor.

“We are honoured to be recognised alongside other winners including FGV Holdings Bhd, EcoWorld Development Group Bhd, UEM Edgenta Bhd, Mah Sing Group Bhd, Jawala Plantation Industries, and Xeraya Capital Sdn Bhd, among others.

“The Sustainable Development Goals will not only help build a better world, but will also foster the goals of developing an inclusive and sustainable society,” the company said in a Facebook post.

The 2022 Malaysia Outstanding ESG Corporate Excellence Award recognises small-and-medium to large enterprises in Malaysia which demonstrate good ESG practices.

SMG focuses on cleaning and rehabilitating Sungai Klang, via a water quality monitoring system, garbage traps and the use of the advanced Interceptor garbage collection machine vessel.

The project resulted in the successful removal of 75,402 metric tonnes of solid waste from Sungai Klang between 2016 and September last year.
