Strata management committees urged to apply for low-cost apartment insurance scheme

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Strata management committees are advised to apply for the Low-Cost Apartment Insurance Scheme implemented by the Selangor government.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the insurance was introduced specifically for low-cost apartments, which gives coverage in the event of a disaster such as a fire.

“This insurance scheme shows that the state government cares by ensuring the welfare of the people, including those living in strata housing, so they can live safely and securely.

“The management committees can apply for this scheme managed by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS),” he said in a press conference after officiating the First Class Strata Management Symposium at the Park Royal Collection Hotel here, yesterday.

The Selangor government established the Low-Cost Apartment Insurance scheme with an allocation of RM1.5 million.

The scheme aims to help urban settlers who own houses resolve the inability of apartment management committees to insure the building by Section 93 of the Strata Management Act 2013 (757).

This allows the state government to help in making compensation from the insurance party (Takaful) due to fire, damages due to storm or strong winds, water tank overflow and elevator damages.
