Amirudin, Gombak, Selangor: Ne’er shall they separate

By Norrasyidah Arshad

GOMBAK, Nov 4 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari regards Gombak as a quintessential part of himself, since his colleagues and he have actively defended the interests of its local residents.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the parliamentary seat said the close fraternal ties among friends in PKR, as well as among various social segments have resulted in the coalition maintaining firm support in the past three terms.

The Menteri Besar added he has been active in Gombak ever since PKR leaders invited him to struggle for the former Batu Caves state constituency, now known as Sungai Tua.

“Yes, I am a Johorean. I say this since there are already ripples claiming that I am an outsider, and not from Gombak. Only ‘he’ is truly from Gombak.

“But I will say this, Gombak and Selangor can never be cleaved from the soul of Amirudin Shari,” he said during the Himpunan Gombak Bermaruah ceremony and launch of the PH machinery for the seat, yesterday night.

Amirudin is implying a reference to incumbent Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who reportedly said he is ‘a native of Gombak and not a Johorean’.

Amirudin will be contesting the seat that Azmin won during the 14th general election in 2018, before switching sides in early 2020 and will now defend his seat on the Perikatan Nasional ticket.

Other candidates include BN’s Megat Zulkarnain Omardin and Gerakan Tanah Air’s Aziz Jamaludin Tahir will also vie for Gombak.
