SHAH ALAM, Nov 13 — Five districts in Selangor are expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 3.55pm, the agency said the affected areas include Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

“Other states and territories which will also see inclement weather include Kedah, Penang, Perlis, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Johor.

“Meanwhile, Perak (Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Jerantut, Bentong, Bera and Rompin), Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sibu and Mukah) will also see strong weather.

“The same goes for Sabah, where it is expected in Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kudat,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
