Flood in Sarawak, 77 victims evacuated to temporary relief centres in Bintulu

KUCHING, Nov 1 — A total of 77 people, involving 25 families, in five villages in Bintulu were evacuated to a relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Suarah Bintulu last night when floods hit their villages following continuous rain since yesterday.

A statement issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) stated that the evacuees are from Kampung Kemunting, Kampung Assyakirin, Desa Damai, Kampung Baru and Bukit Orang.

“The water in the villages started to rise at about 8 pm and the PPS was opened at 12.54 am (today) to accommodate the victims,” it said.

It said the committee was also monitoring other areas prone to floods in Bintulu, as well as Sibu.
