Selangor introduces risk disaster action plan to address climate change

By Sofia Nasir

SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — The state government has introduced the Selangor Climate Change Policy and Action Plan as a reference for relevant organisations in achieving sustainable development.

State executive councillor for environment and green technology Hee Loy Sian said the plan was approved on October 19 by the State Executive Council.

“The policy was formulated as a framework which guides the state government, local authorities, state departments and agencies, industrial sector, local communities and other stakeholders in achieving climate resilience development.

“The approach to coordinate the adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk management efforts is being executed in stages given that nearly all disasters occurred in the state, towns, districts and subdistricts were related to the climate change,” he said

Hee was replying to a question by Bandar Utama state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin on the adaptation and mitigation plan by the state government in facing climate change at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.

He said that the development scope of the policy had been discussed and decided by the Selangor State Climate Change Action Council.

He said that the council is made up of experienced professionals in a number of disciplines, such as town planning, policy development, climate, and township.

“The state government anticipates that the plan and policy for addressing climate change will result in a strong commitment and policy,” he added.
