Exco plans to discuss laws protecting gig workers with minister

SUBANG JAYA, Dec 11 — The state government plans to discuss specific laws protecting gig workers (p-hailing) with the newly-appointed Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and human capital development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the status of gig workers, especially regarding legal aspects, will be comprehensively reviewed with the Federal government.

“I will be meeting her soon to resolve problems faced by p-hailing workers because there is no specific law for this group.

“I will also ask the minister to focus on issues relating to the young generation including to introduce (to the Federal government) several programmes for the youth group,” he said at a press conference after attending the Selangor Mega Job Fair Expo at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (Maeps) in Serdang, yesterday.

Meanwhile, commenting on the appointment of Adam Adli Abd Halim as the Youth and Sports deputy minister, Khairuddin said he believes Adam will be able to inspire and approach the youth group with relevant programmes.

“Adam has fresh ideas as he is still young, therefore, I think he can easily approach and inspire the younger generation.

“I also hope the ministers could find the best solution to tackle the youths who are easily influenced by racial issues. We have to control any element that could jeopardise our country’s safety,” he added.
