SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 — The Ikon Agro Selangor programme will be continued for the third time beginning December 19, says state executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim.
He said the competition, which aims to transform the state as a food supply hub, offers a cash prize of RM10,000 and agricultural equipment.
He said the competition encompasses five categories namely animal farming, aquaculture, crops, agro-based industries and agrotourism.
“This programme will choose an individual or company that utilises technology in their agriculture ventures. Our objective is to promote more involvement in the agriculture industry aside from making Selangor the leader in the industry.
“Nominations will be open until January 16. Those who meet the criteria such as being viable, working on modern products in Selangor and producing high yields will be chosen,” he said after the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat appreciation event last night.
The terms and conditions are as follow:
- Born in Selangor or have resided in the state for over five years
- Aged 18 and above
- The company under own name and operates in Selangor
- A complete three-year financial statement
- Associations and cooperatives are encouraged to apply
The award was introduced in 2020 to search for 10 successful icons in the agriculture sector.
Selected candidates will be monitored and audited by the state agricultural committee for two years to ensure they remain a consistent food supplier in the long run.
