Playground at Taman Eng Ann becomes temporary flood catchment pond

SHAH ALAM, Dec 27 — To overcome flash floods problems at Taman Eng Ann in Bandar Baru Klang and the surrounding areas, a flood mitigation project has been implemented whereby a playground is turned into a temporary flood catchment pool at a cost of approximately RM381,000.

Klang Municipal Council (MPK) Corporate Communications director Norfiza Mahfiz said the project at Jalan Serindit 9, Taman Eng Ann began on December 22 and is expected to be completed within six months, on June 21, 2023.

“The contractor for the project is lowering the field by about one metre, thus, making it serve dual functions, namely as a playground when dry and a temporary water catchment pool when the drain water overflows.

“The temporary catchment pool can hold a capacity of 3000 cubic metres of water,” he said when contacted.

According to Norfiza, while the work is being carried out, the contractor will have to cut down the trees and remove the playground equipment in the park before re-installing them when it is finished.

Bandar Baru Klang state assemblyman, Dato’ Teng Chang Khim has also visited the field area recently with MPK councillor and Engineer director Zamri Othman.
