Selangor appoints 272 councillors for 12 local councils

SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — The Selangor State Executive Council has approved the appointment of 272 councillors for 12 local councils, says state executive councillor for transportation and local government Ng Sze Han.

He said the appointment will take effect for one year, beginning January 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023.

“The appointment comprises 116 members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), 97 members of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and 59 members from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

“Out of the total, 75 councillors (28 per cent) were newly-appointed members where 57 of them were from PKR, 11 (DAP) and seven (Amanah).

“Meanwhile, 76 councillors were women, with 30 from PKR, 30 (DAP) and 16 (Amanah). In addition, 53 councillors were of the youth group aged below 35, where 22 of them were from PKR, 19 (DAP) and 12 from Amanah,” he said in a statement today.

Ng added that 26 new councillors or 10 per cent of the total number were from the women’s group, with 18 of them from PKR, six (DAP) and two from Amanah.

“On top of that, 15 people were new faces from the youth group, with 12 of them from PKR, one (DAP) and two (Amanah).

“Five people were newly appointed among the women and youth group, with three councillors from DAP and one from PKR and Amanah, respectively,” he added.
