SERDANG, Dec 10 — The Selangor government plans to host a mega career carnival next year to ensure the state’s unemployment rate stays below four per cent, says Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

The state executive councillor for human capital development said that the exact date has yet to be determined but it is anticipated to take place in either March or April of 2023.

“The state administration is committed and focused in ensuring that the unemployment rate in Selangor remains before four per cent.

“Therefore, we are planning to organise a similar career carnival early of next year, either in March or April. It will be at the same locations (as previously held), which is either at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park (Maeps) or the MBSA Convention Centre,” he said during a press conference after visiting the exhibitors at the Selangor Mega Job Carnival at Maeps, here today.

Following the event’s resounding success, Mohd Khairuddin expressed confidence that about 10,000 people would attend the event by the end of the day tomorrow.

“I strongly advise the people in Selangor, as well as those outside the state, to attend the job fair today and tomorrow and take advantage of the 30,000 job openings offered by 300 different companies.

“Opportunities are also provide to those of disabled groups (OKU) as we also have four interpreters to facilitate communication with them,” he said.

In response to the youths who are less interested in continuing their studies, Mohd Khairuddin urged them to explore a variety of skills before finding employment.

“The state government has provided a number of initiatives, including skill development at the Selangor State Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) and the Selangor Smart Technical Skills and Expertise Initiative (Iktisass).

“I would recommend them to try to build many skills instead of entering the workforce right away,” he added.

The second series of the two-day 2022 Mega Job Carnival, which kicked off yesterday, offers over 30,000 job opportunities from various sectors involving 300 renowned companies.

Among the companies involved are Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional (Proton), Pos Malaysia, Prasarana Berhad, Puncak Niaga Holdings, Starbucks, Genting Malaysia and government agencies and state government subsidiaries.
