Statewide rains, winds until evening — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Dec 18 — Selangor should see inclement weather until early this evening, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In a statement issued at 3pm, the agency said other states and territories which will also see heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms include Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

“Perak (Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim) Pahang (Raub, Bentong, Temerloh and Bera) Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu and Seremban) and Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Pontian) will also experience strong weather.

“In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro), Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu dan Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi) while in Sabah it is Pedalaman (Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Ranau), Sandakan and Kudat (Pitas),” it said.

The weather is expected to persist until 6pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
